Shona Gibbs | Upstream Counscelling

Hello, I'm Shona, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Abernethy, Perth. My journey here has been quite an adventure, having spent almost a quarter of a century living outside of Scotland in both northern Italy and the southeast of England. Originally from Edinburgh, I spent 5 years of my childhood in Perth attending Craigie Primary school. Returning to Scotland has not been without its stresses but witnessing both the changes that time has brought and the enduring beauty of this amazing country we live in has made it worthwhile.

My counselling and psychotherapy business marks my first foray into business after a career in social work working with local authorities and voluntary organisations spanning many years and I've been astounded at how quickly I've established a thriving private practice.

My approach is rooted in pluralism, which places collaboration at the core of the client-therapist relationship. Recognising the uniqueness of each individual, I believe that therapeutic needs cannot be confined to a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I advocate for shared decision-making, ensuring that the therapeutic journey is tailored to the specific needs and aspirations of each client.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I work with individuals of any gender from 16 years upwards, on a myriad of issues including grief, loss, bereavement, anxiety, relationship issues, issues around sexuality and abuse including sexual, emotional and spiritual.
