Perthshire Businesswomen’s Network (PBN) Adult Safeguarding Policy
1. Introduction
Perthshire Businesswomen’s Network (PBN) is committed to promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all committee members, members, guests, and participants in our events and activities. This policy outlines our approach to safeguarding adults at risk from harm, abuse, or exploitation within the PBN community.
2. Purpose
This policy is designed to:
Protect adults who engage with PBN from harm, abuse, or neglect.
Provide guidance to PBN committee members, members, volunteers, and event attendees on recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns.
Promote a culture of dignity, respect, and empowerment for all individuals.
3. Scope
This policy applies to all committee members, members, guests, volunteers, and associates of PBN, including individuals attending PBN events, networking opportunities, and other activities.
4. Definition of an Adult at Risk
An adult at risk is any person aged 16 or over who:
Requires care or support due to age, disability, illness, or other circumstances.
Is unable to protect themselves from harm, neglect, or exploitation.
May be at risk of abuse due to their personal situation or the actions of others.
5. Types of Abuse
Abuse can take many forms, including but not limited to:
Physical Abuse – Inflicting harm through physical actions such as hitting, pushing, or inappropriate restraint.
Emotional/Psychological Abuse – Intimidation, threats, coercion, humiliation, or verbal abuse.
Financial Abuse – Theft, fraud, or exploitation of financial resources.
Sexual Abuse – Any form of unwanted sexual attention or harassment.
Neglect or Self-Neglect – Failing to provide necessary care or support, or an individual neglecting their own well-being.
Discriminatory Abuse – Abuse based on gender, race, disability, age, religion, or sexual orientation.
6. Responsibilities of PBN
PBN is committed to ensuring that:
All committee members, members and attendees treat each other with respect and dignity.
Safeguarding concerns are taken seriously and addressed promptly.
A safe and welcoming environment is maintained at all PBN events and online interactions.
Any reports of abuse, discrimination, or harassment are dealt with appropriately.
7. Recognising and Responding to Safeguarding Concerns
If a safeguarding concern arises, PBN committee members, members or event attendees should:
Listen – If someone discloses abuse, listen without judgment.
Reassure – Let them know they are being heard and believed.
Report – Raise concerns to the PBN Committee or safeguarding lead. If there is an immediate risk, contact emergency services.
Record – Document the concern accurately, including details of what was said and any actions taken.
8. Confidentiality and Data Protection
Any safeguarding concerns will be handled confidentially and shared only with relevant authorities where necessary.
Personal information will be processed in line with GDPR and data protection regulations.
9. Reporting a Safeguarding Concern
To report a safeguarding concern within PBN, please contact PBN President at info@pbn.org.uk or if an individual is in immediate danger, call 999. For non-emergency concerns, contact Perth & Kinross Council Adult Protection Team at 0345 301 11 20 or email accessteam@pkc.gov.uk.
10. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains current and effective. Updates may be made as required to align with best practices and legal requirements.
