Swarna Kumar grew up in Southern India, surrounded by spice farms, family cooking and a culture where food was at the heart of family life. Those early experiences shaped who she is — someone who believes food is about nurturing, connection and bringing people together.

After moving to Scotland, Swarna built a new life with her husband Praveen, combining family, entrepreneurship and a shared passion for hospitality. Together they founded the award-winning Tabla Restaurant and later the Indian Cook School, where Swarna loves sharing authentic Indian cooking and the stories behind it.

Alongside this, she co-founded Praveen Kumar Authentic Indian Cuisine into one of the UK’s fastest-growing curry brands, bringing authentic Indian food to households across the country while staying true to the family’s roots and values.

At heart, Swarna is a creative, a home cook, a businesswoman and a community-minded person who cares deeply about people. Her journey has been about blending heritage with innovation, raising a family while growing a business, and building something meaningful with warmth, resilience and generosity.
